The Holy Spirit's Work in Our Lives- Week of June 8th, 2026

5-Day Devotional: The Holy Spirit's Work in Our Lives

Day 1: The Spirit Who Convicts
Reading: John 16:7-11
Devotional:
Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. This conviction is not condemnation—it's the loving work of God opening our blind eyes to truth. Like a doctor who diagnoses illness not to shame but to heal, the Spirit reveals what's wrong so we can be made whole. You cannot treat what you refuse to face. The Spirit's conviction is mercy, pointing us toward the open door of grace while there's still time. Today, don't resist that quiet voice speaking to your heart. It's not guilt—it's guidance leading you home.

Reflection: Where is the Holy Spirit convicting you today? What truth have you been avoiding?
Day 2: Dead Made Alive
Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
Devotional:
Paul reminds us we were dead in our trespasses—not weak, not struggling, but dead. The dead cannot raise themselves. Regeneration is God's miraculous work of giving new life. Like birth, we contribute nothing and initiate nothing; we simply receive. This isn't self-improvement or trying harder—it's God performing a heart transplant, removing the stone and giving flesh. When the Spirit gives new life, everything changes: the Bible becomes alive, prayer becomes powerful, worship becomes honest, and sin loses its grip. This is not about your effort but about God's gift of a new heart beating within you.

Reflection: Can you identify ways the Spirit has brought new life to areas that once felt dead?
Day 3: Shaped Into His Image
Reading: Romans 8:12-17
Devotional:
Salvation is not the finish line—it's the starting line. The Spirit doesn't save you and step aside; He stays to make you like Christ. Sanctification is the sculptor's work, carefully chiseling away everything that doesn't reflect Jesus. Sometimes this process is uncomfortable because cherished habits must change. We often mistake this for self-improvement, trying harder until we're exhausted. But sanctification is a Spirit work. Our effort is surrender—positioning ourselves to be empowered by Him. The fruit of love, joy, peace, and patience cannot be manufactured; they must be produced within us by the Spirit moving like a current.

Reflection: Are you trying to generate your own momentum, or are you surrendering to the Spirit's current?
Day 4: Found, Carried, Restored
Reading: Ezekiel 36:25-27
Devotional:
Picture a man adrift in the ocean at night—disoriented, exhausted, barely keeping his head above water. Suddenly a light cuts through the darkness, moving toward him with precision. The light reveals his true condition (conviction), the rescuer dives in and pulls him to safety (regeneration), then warms, clothes, and restores him over time (sanctification). He did not save himself. He was found, carried, and brought home. God promised through Ezekiel: "I will give you a new heart...I will put my Spirit within you." Notice the language—"I will, I will, I will." This is God's initiative, God's work, God's grace.

Reflection: Where are you in this rescue story? Still treading water, newly on board, or being restored?
Day 5: Recalculating Your Route
Reading: Psalm 139:1-12
Devotional:
Like a GPS that doesn't condemn when you miss the turn but simply recalculates from where you are, the Holy Spirit meets you in your current location. He doesn't yell, shame, or bring up your history. He finds you exactly where you are and plots a new course. The goal was never to catch you going wrong—the goal was always to get you home. The Spirit sees you, knows where you've wandered, and is already calculating the route back. When He says turn, turn. Don't swim away from the light. The recalculation has begun. He's not waiting for you to find your way—He's already come to guide you.

Reflection: What is the Spirit telling you to do today? Will you turn when He says turn?
Closing Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for finding me where I am.
Thank You for conviction that clears my vision,
for new life that I did not and could not earn,
and for Your patient work of shaping me into the image of Jesus.
Today I surrender again.
Show me where to turn, what to release, and how to trust You more.
Silence the voices of shame and let me hear Your guidance clearly.
Lead me, empower me, and change me for the glory of Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I really needed to hear this sermon!Even though I know better I keep focusing on what I can do to share my faith. It’s time for me to get in better touch with the Counselor and follow where He might lead me. I can’t do anything without Him anyway! It’s about following Him.

I have tried harder on my own to do lots of things better. It just doesn’t work. When we open up our heart to the Holy Spirit’s influence in us, we will find ourselves digging deeper in the Bible, asking blessings on those we may not have in our past prayers, and worshiping in a more reverent and meaningful way. Submit to the Holy Spirit and be refreshed in Christian values.

My effort is surrender! That is so important. We are born with this idea that we can do everything ourselves and it’s just the opposite! We need to submit to the Holy Spirit and let Him do the work of sanctification. That’s how we grow into the disciples were meant to be.

Awareness of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives is probably the most important lesson we can learn in our faith journey. We should begin every day with a conversation with our Counselor. I feel the need to tell the world about Jesus Christ when I do.

Today I felt the unquestionable influence of the Holy Spirit in an important way. He placed compassion in my heart at just the right moment in a sad conversation with a unique twist. However, having to make an unimportant decision, I was on my own. He is there to help when we need him the most, to soften our hearts with kindness for someone who needs a lift!
