The Spirit Who Stays- Week of June 1st, 2026

5-Day Devotional: The Spirit Who Stays
Day 1: A Person, Not a Power
Reading: John 14:15-17; Romans 8:26-27
Devotional: The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force or distant energy—He is a divine Person who knows you by name. When words fail and prayers feel impossible, the Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for articulation. He doesn't wait for you to clean up your life before showing up; He meets you in the mess. Today, you're not alone in your struggle. The Helper stands beside you, translating your wordless groans into prayers the Father understands perfectly. Stop treating the Spirit like a doctrine to affirm and start relating to Him as the Counselor who never leaves your side. He's not waiting to be acknowledged—He's already present, already interceding, already caring.

Day 2: From Guest to Resident
Reading: Ezekiel 36:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Devotional: God has moved from visiting His people to dwelling within them. In the Old Testament, His glory came and went—filling the temple, then departing. But through Christ, everything changed. The Spirit doesn't visit you on Sundays; He resides in you permanently. You carry the full presence of God everywhere you go—to work, to difficult conversations, to lonely moments. You're not a house waiting for God to show up; you're a temple He's already occupied. Stop living like an orphan when you're fully inhabited by the Father. The washer and dryer are in the next room—stop scrubbing your clothes in the sink. His presence isn't partial or temporary. He's moved in fully, permanently, completely.

Day 3: The Empty Chair
Reading: John 14:18-21; Matthew 28:20
Devotional: Jesus understood the grief of abandonment His disciples would feel. But His leaving wasn't desertion—it was divine arrangement. He promised another Helper so that the chair would never truly be empty. Perhaps someone left you—a parent, friend, or loved one who was supposed to stay. That wound runs deep. But Jesus is not like them. He doesn't abandon, disappear, or walk away when things get hard. The Spirit He sent ensures you're never doing life alone. That empty chair at your table, that space in your heart—Jesus filled it with His abiding presence. You may have been left before, but you will never be left again. The Helper has come to stay.

Day 4: Taught by the Spirit
Reading: John 14:25-26; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13
Devotional: The Spirit is your personal teacher, illuminating Scripture and revealing truth your mind alone cannot grasp. That moment when a familiar verse suddenly clicks with fresh meaning? That's not coincidence—that's divine instruction. The Spirit has one objective: conforming you to the image of Christ. Every conviction, every gentle nudge toward holiness, every uncomfortable truth that challenges your comfort—that's the Spirit teaching you. He doesn't just comfort your emotions; He transforms your understanding. This week, open your Bible with expectation. Pray, "Spirit, teach me." He's been working since you first believed, slowly and persistently reshaping you. Don't resist the lesson. The best Teacher in the universe is already at work in you.

Day 5: Living Like It's True
Reading: Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 5:18-20
Devotional: Believing in the Spirit and living by the Spirit are two different things. Many affirm His presence on paper but live on their own strength. They fight temptation with willpower, make decisions without prayer, and treat faith like a solo endeavor. But the Spirit didn't come to be acknowledged—He came to be relied upon. Today, choose one moment to say aloud, "Holy Spirit, You are here, and I'm not doing this alone." Walk in step with Him. Let His presence inform your decisions, calm your anxieties, and guide your responses. Stop scrubbing in the sink when power is available. The Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you. Live like it's true. Walk like you believe it. You have access to divine power—use it.

This Week's Challenge: Each morning, before checking your phone, say: "Holy Spirit, You are here. Teach me today. I'm not doing this alone." Then watch how He shows up in unexpected moments throughout your day.

Unique to Christianity. No other religion has the god dwelling in its believers! When the triune God created Adam in his image I believe he prepared us for the in dwelling Holy Spirit. It’s mind boggling;every believer is a temple of God’s third person.
God sent His Son Emmanuel, “God with us,” the baby Jesus, to live among His people so He could save them. Before Jesus returned to His Father, He promised to send us a Teacher, a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to dwell within every Christian so we are never truly alone. Rely on the Holy Spirit as your friend and let Him kindle a fire in your heart for Jesus!
Become more like Christ. By faith, receive God’s grace. In hope, seek to live in eternal glory with God. Through love, show charity to others as the Holy Spirit dwells in your heart. Live for Jesus. The Holy Spirit empowers us to say “Jesus is Lord” with conviction, so live accordingly. You’re never alone in Christ.
More than anything else I feel that I experience the Holy Spirit teaching me by opening my mind to new understanding of scripture. That’s the great blessing that so many believers fail to experience because they simply don’t read the Bible enough.God’s word truly has the power to transform us!
Live by The Spirit and walk in The Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit into your heart to guide your decisions. Trust His counsel. You can’t discipline your way to Christian character alone. Avail yourself of this miraculous power within you and be Spirit-led.
